Virgin Plus (Bell’s low-cost carrier) is introducing new mobile data plans that achieve the CRTC 25% price reductions ahead of the expected 2022 mandate. On October 5^th, the new lower-cost mobile data plans will be introduced and Virgin Plus will be amongst the few carriers achieving the government’s policy objective of reducing wireless costs for consumers.

This announcement comes as Canadians are starting to see the impact of overall price reductions from the wireless carriers. Prior to the last rounds of price reductions, Canadians are seeing declines in costs of approximately 15% which bears in strike contrast to the general inflation rate of almost 7% over the same period.

We expect to see further decreases from other carriers, and in the Canadian market in general in the coming months. With the pandemic increasing the demands from consumers on data services and remote working becoming increasingly the norm we hope this is just the beginning of further reductions.
