Ontario bans use of hand-held devices while driving Print
Hands-Free Ontario

Ontario became one of the newest provinces in Canada to ban the use of hand-held devices while driving; yesterday. As Ontarians scrambled to their retailers to get hands free-devices, many still are completely unaware of the ban.

The ban imposes fines of up to $500 for violations. This new law specifically makes it illegal for drivers to talk, text, type, dial or e−mail using hand−held cell phones and other hand−held communications and entertainment devices. There has been some speculation that police aren’t going to enforce this new law until February 1st; however police have the authority to enforce and many are stating that they will enforce the regulations now.

Under this new law the only exceptions are given to emergency personnel and persons in emergencies to dial-911. However, they too will be required to implement hands-free technology very soon.
