Windows 7: Seven Versions PDF Print E-mail
Microsoft in early January began it's official public BETA testing of its most recent operating system and since it's announcement, they have continued to provide users with information about the different variations and versions that it will be available for sale in. Each version of the program is said to be super-set from one-another as well as all features from the original version are carried over from the other. Below you will see (in order of succession) the various versions:

Windows 7 Starter Edition - targeted for developing markets or for netbook pc's, it is intended to give users a low cost option of the platform and provide some basic windows functionality.This version is not retail sold and is only pre-installed by OEM's.

Windows 7 Home Basic  - targeted for emerging markets, is to provide PC functionality however is directed as a entry-level platform.

Windows 7 Home Premium -will be among the most common choice for consumers. It gives full-feature access to all elements of the PC and enables users to take advantage of the visual AERO interface.

Windows 7 Professional - will be the most common choice for professionals/businesses. This platform is remains targets for non-enterprise customers and gives users the ability to join domains and has some advanced security related features. Current users of Windows Vista business will logically migrate to this platform.

Windows 7 Enterprise - is the enterprise level release of the operating system. Usually released via-specialized licensing delivery methods and is targeted towards large companies/enterprises requiring advanced security tools and administrative control.

Windows 7 Ultimate - is the most premium and full-featured version of the platform and contains all the features of the Windows 7 platform. (i.e. Windows Media Centre, Ultimate Extras etc.)

In the announcement, Microsoft states that they are ensuring that the Windows 7: "can run on a very broad set of hardware" and as a result, "a lot of people running our most premium, full-featured offering on small-notebook PCs (netbooks) with good experiences and good results." Pressure from the Media and consumers is suggesting that Windows 7 is ready to market. However Microsoft has not yet annunced any formal specific launch plans or pricing structure.
