Google Earth: Ocean & On Mars PDF Print E-mail

Google, has launched its most recent release of Google Earth (Version 5.) In this release Google has added the ability to explore the surface of our red neighbour Mars and then go deep under the ocean exploring some of the planets' most uncharted territories.

Google Mars 3D: uses hi-resolution images of the red planet (supplied by NASA) allows users to explore the Olympus Mons and supplies users with geo-located excerpts of different locations on the planet from 'A Traveler's Guide to Mars'. Additionally, the software also allows users to see various points of interest on the planet, such as Mars rovers and lander touchdowns.

Oceans in Google Earth: give users the ability to explore the deepest and some of the hardest to reach places in the world. To make navigating the ocean a little less tedious and a more educational experience, Google has introduced 20 different "content layers" which contain various pieces of additional information that should prove to aid users (i.e. geo-tagged videos, geo-quizes and photographic information from 20 different organizations/indivduals around the world.)

Slyvia Earle, National Geogrpahic Explorer-In-Resedence, said: "I cannot imagine a more effective way to inspire awareness and caring for the blue heart of the planet than the new ocean in Google Earth... For the first time, everyone from curious kids to serious researchers can see the world, the whole world, with new eyes. In a stroke, Google Earth brings life and character to the blue part of the planet, and makes obvious the many ways land, water, atmosphere and living systems connect. Many 'aha!' moments are sure to come as people discover new patterns, new correlations, and countless personal discoveries while vicariously diving into the waters of the world."

Google Earth 5.0 is now available in 41 languages (up from the previous 26):English (US), English(GB), French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Latin America), Dutch,  Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Polish, Turkish, Thai, Arabic, Swedish, Finnish, Danish, Portuguese (Portugal), Romanian, Hungarian, Hebrew, Indonesian, Czech, Greek, Norwegian, Vietnamese, Bulgarian, Croatian, Lithuanian, Slovak, Filipino, Slovenian, Serbian, Catalan, Latvian, Ukrainian, and Hindi.
